Each time a poem was published, I did a reading, or taught a class, there was an inevitable question: Where can I see your poetry?
Despite a web presence going back over two decades, the battle with chronic illnesses for twice that time interrupted each site so that question has prompted me to pull the poems that did make it online together with those that have been waiting & give them their own site at last.
Although there are times when the chronic illnesses & pain have kept me from writing, the catharsis of writing has gotten me through far more than anything else could. No wonder I’ve been writing throughout my life. Of course, more poems than I can count have been lost too so I now back them up. 😕
Welcome. I’m Dorian Dorey; impaired poet and rebellious spoonie*, striving not to be bested by illness and determined to thrive once I survive, serving up coffee for the soul.. 💜 & ☕️
Finding myself among writers
Trusting myself to write again
Seeking encouragement together
Honoring the need to share:
Inspiration found
In like minds
Inside the circle
In hope of more
With hearts open
Without judgement
With all that we are
Within and thru expression

AND SO WE WRITE..

“Writers don’t write from experience, although many are hesitant to admit that they don’t. If you wrote from experience, you’d get maybe one book, maybe three poems. Writers write from empathy.”
— Nikki Giovanni
*The term “spoonie” is derived from Christine Miserandino’s analogy of what it’s like to live with sickness or disability, The Spoon Theory.
